We know that solubility is the degree to which a substance dissolves in a solvent to make a solution. Where, water solubility or aqueous solubility refers to the ability of a substance (or solute) to dissolve in water.

This pharmaceutical solubility database contains the aqueous and chemical solubility of API and Excipients commonly used in pharmaceutical industry.

  • Acetaminophen solubility – freely soluble in alcohol; soluble in boiling water and in 1 N sodium hydroxide; in water is much lower than ethanol.
  • Acetazolamide solubility – sparingly soluble in practically boiling water; slightly soluble in alcohol; very slightly soluble in water.
  • Acetylcysteine solubility – freely soluble in water and in alcohol; practically insoluble in chloroform and in ether.
  • Acyclovir solubility – soluble in tetrahydrofuran; sparingly soluble in ethanol; practically insoluble in water.

  • Beclomethasone Dipropionate solubility – very soluble in chloroform; freely soluble in acetone and in alcohol; very slightly soluble in water.
  • Bentonite solubility – insoluble in water, but swells to approximately twelve times its volume when added to water; insoluble in, and does not swell in, organic solvents.
  • Benzalkonium Chloride solubility – very soluble in water and in alcohol. Anhydrous form freely soluble in benzene, and slightly soluble in ether.
  • Benzoic Acid solubility – freely soluble in alcohol, in chloroform, and in ether; slightly soluble in water.
  • Benzyl Alcohol solubility – freely soluble in 50% alcohol; sparingly soluble in water. Miscible with alcohol, with ether, and with chloroform.
  • Benzyl Benzoate solubility – practically insoluble in water and in glycerin. Miscible with alcohol, with ether, and with chloroform.
  • Beta Carotene solubility – soluble in carbon disulfide, in benzene, and in chloroform; sparingly soluble in ether, in solvent hexane, and in vegetable oils; practically insoluble in methanol and in alcohol; insoluble in water, in acids, and in alkalies.
  • Betadex solubility – sparingly soluble in water.
  • Betamethasone solubility – sparingly soluble in acetone, in alcohol, in dioxane, and in methanol; very slightly soluble in chloroform and in ether; insoluble in water.
  • Betaxolol Hydrochloride solubility – freely soluble in water, in alcohol, in chloroform, and in methanol.
  • Biotin solubility – very slightly soluble in water and in alcohol; insoluble in other common organic solvents.
  • Bisacodyl solubility – soluble in chloroform and in benzene; sparingly soluble in alcohol and in methanol; slightly soluble in ether; practically insoluble in water.
  • Bismuth Subsalicylate solubility – practically insoluble in water, in alcohol, and in ether. Reacts with alkalies and mineral acids.
  • Bisoprolol Fumarate solubility – very soluble in water and in methanol; freely soluble in chloroform, in glacial acetic acid, and in alcohol; slightly soluble in acetone and in ethyl acetate.

  • Boric Acid solubility – freely soluble in glycerin, in boiling water, and in boiling alcohol; soluble in water and in alcohol.
  • Brimonidine Tartrate solubility – soluble in water; practically insoluble in anhydrous ethanol and in toluene.
  • Brinzolamide solubility – slightly soluble in alcohol and in methanol; insoluble in water.

  • Butyl Palmitostearate solubility – soluble in acetone, in alcohol, in ether, in mineral oils, and in vegetable oils; practically insoluble in water and in propylene glycol.

  • Calcium Acetate solubility – freely soluble in water; slightly soluble in methanol; practically insoluble in acetone, in dehydrated alcohol, and in benzene.
  • Calcium Carbonate solubility – practically insoluble in water. Its solubility in water is increased by the presence of any ammonium salt or of carbon dioxide.
  • Calcium Chloride solubility – very soluble in boiling water; freely soluble in water, in alcohol, and in boiling alcohol.
  • Calcium Citrate solubility – freely soluble in diluted 3 N hydrochloric acid and in diluted 2 N nitric acid; slightly soluble in water; insoluble in alcohol.
  • Calcium Hydroxide solubility – soluble in glycerin and in syrup; slightly soluble in water; very slightly soluble in boiling water; insoluble in alcohol.
  • Dibasic Calcium Phosphate solubility – soluble in 3 N hydrochloric acid and in 2 N nitric acid; practically insoluble in water; insoluble in alcohol.
  • Tribasic Calcium Phosphate solubility – freely soluble in 3 N hydrochloric acid and in 2 N nitric acid; practically insoluble in water; insoluble in alcohol.
  • Calcium Silicate solubility – insoluble in water.
  • Calcium Stearate solubility – insoluble in water, in alcohol, and in ether.
  • Camphor solubility – slightly soluble in water; very soluble in alcohol, in chloroform, and in ether; freely soluble in carbon disulfide, in solvent hexane, and in fixed and volatile oils.
  • Capecitabine solubility – freely soluble in methanol; soluble in acetonitrile and in alcohol; sparingly soluble in water.
  • Capsaicin solubility – soluble in alcohol, in benzene, in chloroform; slightly soluble in carbon disulfide; practically insoluble in cold water.
  • Carbamazepine solubility – soluble to very slightly soluble in alcohol and in acetone; practically insoluble in water.
  • Carbidopa solubility – freely soluble in 3 N hydrochloric acid; slightly soluble in water, and in methanol; practically insoluble in alcohol, in acetone, in chloroform, and in ether.
  • Carbomer 910 solubility – when neutralized with alkali hydroxides or with amines, it dissolves in water, in alcohol, and in glycerin.
  • Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium solubility – easily dispersed in water to form colloidal solutions. Insoluble in alcohol, in ether, and in most other organic solvents.
  • Carisoprodol solubility – freely soluble in alcohol, in chloroform, and in acetone; very slightly soluble in water.
  • Carmellose solubility – practically insoluble in ethanol (99.5%). Swells with water to form a suspension.
  • Carvedilol solubility – slightly soluble in alcohol; practically insoluble in water and in dilute acids.
  • Castor Oil solubility – soluble in alcohol. Miscible with dehydrated alcohol, with glacial acetic acid, with chloroform, and with ether.
  • Cefaclor solubility – slightly soluble in water; practically insoluble in methanol, in chloroform, and in benzene.
  • Cefadroxil solubility – slightly soluble in water; practically insoluble in alcohol, in chloroform, and in ether.
  • Cefazolin solubility – soluble in dimethylformamide and in pyridine; sparingly soluble in acetone; slightly soluble in alcohol, in methanol, and in water; very slightly soluble in ethyl acetate, in isopropyl alcohol, and in methyl isobutyl ketone; practically insoluble in benzene, in chloroform, in ether, and in methylene chloride.
  • Cefepime Hydrochloride solubility – freely soluble in water.
  • Cefixime solubility – soluble in methanol and in propylene glycol; slightly soluble in alcohol, in acetone, and in glycerin; very slightly soluble in 70% sorbitol and in octanol; practically insoluble in ether, in ethyl acetate, in hexane, and in water.
  • Cefotaxime Sodium solubility – freely soluble in water; practically insoluble in organic solvents.
  • Cefpodoxime Proxetil solubility – freely soluble in dehydrated alcohol; soluble in acetonitrile and in methanol; slightly soluble in ether; very slightly soluble in water.
  • Ceftizoxime Sodium solubility – freely soluble in water.
  • Cefuroxime Axetil solubility – amorphous form is freely soluble in acetone; soluble in chloroform, in ethyl acetate, and in methanol; slightly soluble in dehydrated alcohol; insoluble in ether and in water. The crystalline form is freely soluble in acetone; sparingly soluble in chloroform, in ethyl acetate, and in methanol; slightly soluble in dehydrated alcohol; insoluble in ether and in water.
  • Cefuroxime Sodium solubility – freely soluble in water; soluble in methanol; very slightly soluble in alcohol, in ether, in ethyl acetate, and in chloroform.
  • Celecoxib solubility – soluble to freely soluble in ethanol; soluble in methylene chloride; practically insoluble in water.
  • Cellulose Acetate solubility – high acetyl content cellulose acetates generally have more limited solubility in commonly used organic solvents than low acetyl content cellulose acetates, but are more soluble in methylene chloride.
  • Microcrystalline Cellulose solubility – practically insoluble in sodium hydroxide solution (1 in 20); insoluble in water, in dilute acids, and in most organic solvents.
  • Silicified Microcrystalline Cellulose solubility – slightly soluble in sodium hydroxide solution (1 in 20); practically insoluble in water, in acetone, in ethanol, in toluene, and in diluted acid.
  • Microcrystalline Cellulose and Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium solubility – swells in water, producing, when dispersed, a white, opaque dispersion or gel. Insoluble in organic solvents and in dilute acids.
  • Cephalexin solubility – slightly soluble in water; practically insoluble in alcohol, in chloroform, and in ether.
  • Cephalexin Hydrochloride solubility – soluble to the extent of 10 mg per mL in water, in acetone, in acetonitrile, in alcohol, in dimethylformamide, and in methanol; practically insoluble in chloroform, in ether, in ethyl acetate, and in isopropyl alcohol.
  • Cephalothin Sodium solubility – freely soluble in water, in saline TS, and in dextrose solutions; insoluble in most organic solvents.
  • Cephradine solubility – sparingly soluble in water; very slightly soluble in alcohol and in chloroform; practically insoluble in ether.
