Marochym-200 (Trypsin & Chymotrypsin) Tablets

Composition: trypsin and chymotrypsin are oral proteolytic enzymes that hasten the repair of traumatic, surgical and orthopedic procedures. The combination of these two enzymes in this product grants it anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous, fibrinolytic, antioxidant and anti-infective properties.

Mechanism of action:

Trypsin and chymotrypsin resolve swelling by exerting proteolytic action on wounds. They promote the healing of damaged tissue easing the way towards a complication free recovery through the following:

  1. Fibrinolytic action by facilitating the activity of plasmin therefore resolving edema and hematoma. It also promotes phagocytosis to remove debris.
  2. Vascular response modulator by minimizing the necrotic damage and scarring.
  3. Modulation of inflammation by reducing pro-inflammatory mediators.

Indications:

  1. Active inflammatory edema that can lead to increased risk of infection in swelling area, decreased blood circulation, stiffness and pain. Examples of such indication include (but are not limited to) post-surgical wounds, traumatic injuries, pelvic inflammatory disorders, intervertebral disc herniation and thrombophlebitis.
  2. Used as an additive for antibiotic therapy to decrease the viscosity of mucus and phlegm in bronchitis.
  3. Debriding agent for wounds and ulcers.

Contraindications:

  1. Pregnancy and breast feeding
  2. Fresh blood clots
  3. Hypersensitivity

Interactions:

  1. Alcohol
  2. Chloramphenicol
  3. Herbal supplements
  4. Anticoagulants such as coumadin, heparin and clopidogrel

Adverse effects:

  1. Generally well-tolerated.
  2. Most common side effect is gastric disturbance.

Dosage:

Depending on the severity of the condition, the doctor may recommend taking 2 tablets of this medicine 3 times a day. After stabilization, the dose may be reduced to 1 tablet 4 times a day.

Administration:

To be taken on an empty stomach (usually 1-2 hours before taking food). Avoid taking with alcoholic beverages as this may increase the risk of side effects.

Overdosage:

  1. Gastric lavage should be considered within one hour of ingestion of a potentially life-threatening over-dosage.
  2. Good urine output should be insured.
  3. Renal and liver function should be closely monitored.
  4. Patients should be observed for at least 4 hours after ingestion of potentially toxic amounts.

Storage:

  1. Cool, dry place below 25 Degrees Celsius.
  2. Protect from light and moisture.
